Become a real DJ with FL Studio Mobile!

While Garageband is largely focused on simulating real instruments like drums, guitars, and piano, FL Studio Mobile concentrates more on the process of the mixing.

Design and Usability 10/10

Hundreds of musical instruments turn the app into an almost professional studio wrapped in your hand. Create and save complete multi-track music projects on your mobile phone or tablet (Android, iOS or Windows). The easy colorful interface provides multiple functions for recording, mixing, editing and sequencing actual songs.

The design of FL Studio Mobile is created for everyone who likes music. The interface looks very bright, and be sure: every single pixel of space is used. Slide out controls and banks of other controls, slide-up keyboards, panels that respond to multi-touch pinch to zoom, buttons that expand to full on mixers. It's better to try than to read about.

Key Functions 10/10

First of all, the app is supported by most of the OSes. It doesn't matter where you start, whether it's a tablet or a phone, move your music between iOS, Android or Windows, and your project will look and sound the same everywhere.

If you have never tried creating music, FL studio mobile has a large media library of samples to start with. These projects, each a minute or two long, in various electronic styles, laid out with rhythm and melody tracks, will inspire you to create your own compositions.

Although there are hundreds of specialized instruments that you can buy separately, there are hundreds of built-in too, helpfully grouped by type.

When it comes to the mix, levels, pans, filter automation and effects sends are also controlled via the main Tracks page. The app offers six effects: limiter, reverb, delay, three-band EQ, amp (a guitar-style overdrive effect), and an accelerometer-controllable multi-mode filter.

Security 10/10

FL Studio Mobile is totally safe application that doesn’t require any unusual access to personal data, no GPS, no passwords, only standard permissions like Internet connection access and your microphone. There were no users’ complains about security.

In-app purchases

The app costs $13.99, and it also has extra-paid functions such as samples or instruments. But if you want to try it before buying, you can download a free plugin FL Studio Mobile 3 app as part of  FL Studio for the desktop.

The Verdict

To sum up, FL Studio Mobile is a nice app to have fun creating music. Whether you're a pro DJ or want to become one, this application is definitely worth your attention. A large number of instruments mixed with a variety of functions give you everything to have a good time. Even though we’re pretty impressed with the possibilities of FL Studio Mobile, it’s not the best app out there if you want to record your own audio from a ‘live’ instrument rather than a synthesized one. But in fact, there's nothing wrong with the app in general. It's just another good plaything to have fun with.

Pros:

  • Free trial version
  • Supports most music formats (MP3, MIDI, WAV)
  • The possibility of transferring projects between devices
  • Samples library
  • Supported by most OSes.

Cons:

  • Not free
  • No possibility to customize the sounds of instruments
  • You have to buy a proper version for every device you got.
